I love Umemura's! It's a small little Ramen shop but don't let its small quaint appearance turn you away. The ramen here is seriously delicious and probably my favorite ramen! I always get the yakiniku miso and it never disappoints me.
It's a family run business and the wife (who is the sweetest human ever) always remembers us. She always asks us about our trips to Japan or when we're going back. She's often the only server there so things can sometimes get a little backed up but she's a hard worker and I never fault her for it.
If you come in thru the back door and you visibly see empty seats it's okay to walk up towards the front where the register is. That way she can see you and offer you a seat.
Will forever come to Umemura's for my ramen fix!
They also only take cash!! Remember your dollars -

Quick summary for 2 stars.
1. Lack of service
2. Lack of flavor in ramen
Attempted to find a different restaurant and settled for this restaurant. What drew me in was the home made message on their sign marquee.
Tips.
1. If you are a first timer. Do NOT enter through the side door. Enter through the front. I stood a few minutes waiting for staff to no avail. There was even a sign in sheet that was not used.
2. The spiciest menu item was not remotely spicy. If you eat here, please bring your own spice.
The food (tan tan ramen with soy bean paste) came out relatively quick and was suprisingly hot. In fact it was so hot it burnt my tongue. The temperature of the ramen was about the only positive of the whole experience. What i failed to realize was the lack of any other ingredients besides bean sprouts, onions, ground beef and noodle. I didnt even get a protein egg to go with my meal. I did get alot of broth... A LOT. I mean i think if i ordered an extra side of noodle and a bowl, i could have created another order for something else. It says something when you finish eating your ramen, take the broth togo, and it fill an estimated 32 oz container. Which leads me to the service....
Although the waitresses were courteous, they did not provide any service. Good service does not simply include a smile and taking your order. I was not attended to after i ordered my meal. It was simply a smile when i was greeted, taking my order, dropping off water, dropping off my ramen, dropping off my check, and allowing me to spill some of my broth in a feable attempt to take the broth to go. If a waitress would have simply asked myself or any other table if we needed anything else, i would give it an additional star.
Would i come back? Probably not. There are so many other ramen establishments. There was nothing the restaurant offered to entice me back. -

I've been frequenting Umemura Ramen since I was a child and that's a very long time. My favorites are mabo ramen (spicy tofu) with wonton topping and always a side of fried rice. Sometimes there's a little wait on weekend nights, but weekdays are generally pretty quite. The server is always friendly and welcoming, and the food is consistently flavorful. This is one of my "go to" ramen restaurants in the Southbay. A word of advice though: THEY ONLY ACCEPT CASH. That being said, make sure you have some green. There is no ATM in the restaurant either. I always reminisce about my grandparents when eating here. I see many locals picking up orders to go as well.

I'm not sure how this place flies *so* under the radar. The extra spicy Tan Tan ramen they make is the best bowl I've had in all of the south bay, and I've been everywhere! Friendly and prompt service, fun atmosphere, maybe it's dismissed somewhat since it's in an old Taco Bell space? Either way, this is it. You won't find better ramen in the area than here.

Favorite ramen spot. Staff is so friendly and the cooks are quick! Weekend nights are almost always packed so I highly suggest coming during a weekday. I love their spicy tantan ramen in their soy sauce broth. I love the flavor and portions to their meals.
